Rhone-Alpes Travel Guide France

The Rhone-Alpes is a very popular region in France, especially when it comes to skiing, adventure sports and outdoor activities.

This region has the start of the Massif Central Mountain Range, which was created from volcanic activity and is also home to the deepest gorge in Europe within the Ardeche region.  The Rhone-Alpes contains major lakes such as Lac Leman, also known as Lake Geneva.

Rhone-Alpes Province of France

Its capital, Lyon, is the second-largest metropolitan area in France after Paris and has a lot of boutiques cafes and restaurants in which to experience the French lifestyle.

You have the French Alps for skiing and snowboarding, with resorts such as Courchevel and Chamonix, which are some of the best internationally renowned ski holiday resorts in the world, Lyon for its culture and the Ardeche for the more adventurous sports and this is also an area particularly popular for camping in France.

To the North lies the flat marshlands of the Dombes and the rich agricultural grounds of the Bresse plain.  It is here that you will also find the world famous Beaujolais vineyards which, along with the Cotes du Rhone, make the region such an important wine producer.

Along with the mountains, pretty and quaint spa towns characterise the rugged Ardeche, and the deeply scoured gorges along the River Ardeche offer some of the wildest and most beautiful scenery in France.

In the Rhone-Alpes region you will find lots of leisure parks, which is an ideal way of enjoying some time with the family. Whether you prefer fun fairs, historic parks where old villages have been restored, wildlife parks or stretches of water to bathe in summer, you will find all the activities in this area.

But for those of you who prefer night life, you will find lovely restaurants, fantastic bars and clubs plus several casinos, where you can test your luck in a luxurious setting and maybe you could even leave as a millionaire!
