Provence-Alpes Cote d'Azur Travel Guide France

Known to many as the French Riviera or the Cote d'Azur, tourism in this area of the Provence-Alpes Cote-d'Azur region, has become a place of celebrities and is famous for its luxury hotels, beaches and boutiques, yet even in the past it has been a popular place.

However, the area inland from the busy Cote d'Azur is an excellent base for many out door sports, which include cycling, mountain biking, walking, fishing, skiing, rock climbing, canoeing, rafting, and horse riding.

Provence-Alpes Cote d'Azur in France

For the people that do not want their feet firmly on the ground, then you are looking at an area that is internationally renowned for paragliding and hang gliding flying sites and the summer months provide a fantastic arial spectacle, both to watch or participate in.

However, in the winter months, skiing holidays are a very popular sport with 11 different holiday ski resorts in the Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur region.

Because of the mild climate this region makes it a year round tourist attraction and holiday destination, and apart from Paris, Nice has more hotels both in number and size than any other City in France.

The beautiful scenery of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence provides the background to many activities and sights and there are 11 villages that have been classified as having special architectural character.

The town of Sisteron with its ancient citadel and narrow streets is a great place to visit whist on holiday in France, plus this region has The Gorge of Verdon, known as Europe's Grand Canyon and the hot spa town of Dignes-les-Baines is also a great place to visit.

Cannes is a city in France, located on the French Riviera, in the Alpes-Maritimes department and the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur and has become world renowned for The Cannes Film Festival which was founded in 1939 and usually held around May each year.

Cannes is also within easy reach of the Maritime Alps and is noted for its gorgeous sandy beaches, although most of which are mainly open to the public for a fee!
