Limousin Province of France

Taking a holiday in Limousin region of France

Limoges in the Haute-Vienne department of Limousin is a thriving cosmopolitan city, plentiful in bars and restaurants plus this city has a very good variety of boutiques, chocolate shops and an indoor market.

There are many porcelain factories and Limoges is also home to the National Ceramic museum, which houses a fine collection of porcelain and ceramics and is definitely worth a visit.  Just walking through the old butchers quarter will take you back in time to the traditional houses.

Holiday in Limousin Province of France

With its many rivers full of Trout, Trench, Roach, Carp, and Pike, just pick up a fishing license from your local bar tabac and you are set for a day of fishing, however, there are only a very select few places that you can do night fishing unless on a privately owned lake.

Le Pays de Trois Lacs, which are held back by three Dams, provide fantastic conditions for angling and water sports, but also have man-made sandy beaches for those that are not so energetic.  Water lovers can also choose to be spoilt by Lac de Vassiviere, a favourite holiday destination of the French where you can enjoy boat trips, windsurfing, sailing, canoeing, water-skiing, cycling, walking, horse riding, or just being there to relax on the beach.

Treignac is a paradise for canoeing and rafting and on the banks of the Auvezere you'll find a chateau called Segur-le-Chateau with its looming castle.  A medieval town called Uzerche is worth a visit and it is circled entirely by the river Vezere.

Remains of fortifications dating from around 450BC to the Roman Conquest can be found at Puy du Tour near Argentat in the Correze.  Plus dotted around the region there are numerous historical sites and museums for all to enjoy.

The Correze has something for everyone and is geared up to give you one of the most action packed holidays of a lifetime.  From fishing to ballooning, or for the even more energetic adventure holidays such as, mountain biking, canoeing, hand gliding and horse riding are just some activities on offer in this part of Limousin.

When on holiday in Limousin you will be spoilt for choice with a wide range of activities available, and others include rowing, speed boating, jet skiing, and kayaking.

There are over 350km of horse riding trails in the Correze, which link all of the main riding centres throughout this department in the Limousin region.

But if you prefer something a little lest hectic, then there are more than 400 short walks offered throughout the department.

For the children there are safari parks, water parks, aquariums and other activities, designed specifically for the pleasure and safety of your children in mind.  There are four main water fun parks in Limousin, known as Centres Aqua-Recreatifs and the children can enjoy paddling, swimming and even pedalos in complete safety under the protection of lifeguards.

Whatever type of holiday in France you are looking for, with a visit to Limousin, there is something for everyone.
